Jane Barr and friend Becky

Dear Friends,

You may have wondered why it is that you haven’t been sent a “subscription due” letter for some time. That’s my fault ...

I’ve been managing the Friends of the Bream Head Restoration Project for seven years almost to the day and have noticed a certain lack of enthusiasm of late in my eagerness to elevate its position in my priority list of things to be done. Not good.

About four years ago I tried passing the task over to someone else but circumstance stopped progress in that direction. I just had to stiffen the sinews and get on with it. But this time I’m in luck.

Jane Barr, pictured above, and a Friend of Bream Head since 2005, has agreed to take over from me. Born in England, Jane came to N.Z. in 1972 and now has NZ citizenship. She ran a gardening centre in Whangarei for 11 years. She was associated with Hospice for 12 years and is currently a member of U3A; she is a keen kayaker, tramper and gardener. Jane is involved in amateur theatre, and is an avid reader. She is also a member of our Smuggler’s Track Maintenance Team. You can tell that she has a lot of energy. Jane lives in McLeod Bay with her faithful friend Becky.

Jane also has a PC programmed with microsoft word. Now this point is of significance. It means that we will be able to put our data base onto our web site (it will not be available to the public) so that Restoration Committee Members will be able to access the data base when Jane is away. Of course, the information will be secure and only authorised people will have the pass code. Trying to do this with an AppleMac database (which I have ) is apparently difficult.
I originally set the database program up on my computer to suit my way of doing things; however, converting it into something that Jane’s PC can read is something that is beyond someone as computer illiterate as I. But we have managed the transfer with professional help from a McLeod Bay resident. Jane is now in a position to take over. I guess the good news is that many of you have not had to pay your subscription for some time, but the even better news is that Jane will be in touch with you before too long with respect to this.

So I can now breath a sigh of relief and concentrate my energy on writing Friend’s Newsletters, which is something I enjoy doing much more.

Jane has also accepted our invitation to be a member of our Restoration Committee and its great to have her on board.
Welcome, Jane!

*********

Greg Innes has recently been appointed as a trustee to the Bream Head Conservation Trust’s Board.

Greg brings with him expertise in many and varied fields as a result of appointments to a number of boards over the years and in his work areas. He is currently a consultant, working from time to time in the USA on contract, in public sector organisations, addressing change management. He has held many governance positions on boards of education, health and conservation in New Zealand and particularly in Northland.

Greg’s wide experience in project management and strategic planning will be invaluable to the Bream Head Restoration Project.
Greg lives in Parua Bay and has been associated with the Whangarei Heads area for most of his life. The Board is very pleased to have Greg on the Trust.

Very best wishes.

David Monro
